Have a Dental Emergency? Here’s What You Should Do<\/h2>\n

If you have a dental emergency, the first thing you should do is assess the damage. If you have knocked out or broken a tooth, lost a filling or crown, are experiencing severe teeth or gum bleeding, have severe tooth pain, or have a gum abscess, it’s important to seek treatment right away.<\/p>\n

Knocked Out or Broken Tooth<\/h3>\n

If you have knocked out or broken a tooth, try and find the tooth and ensure that it is clean. If possible, gently insert the tooth back into its socket and hold it in place with a clean cloth. If this isn’t possible, place the tooth in milk or saline solution. Next, call our dental clinic and explain the situation so we can schedule an appointment for you immediately. If you can’t find the tooth, don’t worry – the emergency dentist will still be able to help.<\/p>\n

Lost Filling or Crown<\/h3>\n

If you have lost a filling or crown, clean the area and cover it with a piece of sugarless gum or wax. If you don’t have any sugarless gum or wax, you can use a wet tea bag as a temporary measure. Next, call our dental clinic and explain the situation so that we can schedule an appointment for you right away.<\/p>\n

Severe Teeth or Gum Bleeding<\/h3>\n

If you are experiencing severe teeth or gum bleeding, apply pressure to the area with a clean cloth. If the bleeding doesn’t stop within 10 minutes, seek medical attention right away.<\/p>\n

Severe Tooth Pain<\/h3>\n

If you are experiencing severe tooth pain that cannot be managed with over-the-counter pain medication, it’s important to call our dental clinic as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Gum Abscess<\/h3>\n

If you see a pocket of pus on your gum, you likely have a gum abscess. Seek treatment right away, as the infection can spread and cause serious health problems.<\/p>\n

Types of Dental Emergency Treatments<\/h2>\n

Knocked Out or Broken Tooth<\/h3>\n

Your dentist will examine the tooth and may be able to reinsert it if it isn’t damaged. If the tooth is damaged, your dentist may be able to save it with a root canal and a crown. If the tooth can’t be saved, you may need to have it extracted and replaced with an implant or bridge.<\/p>\n

Lost Filling or Crown<\/h3>\n

Your dentist will examine the area and may be able to reattach the filling or crown. If the filling or crown can’t be reattached, you will need to have a new one made. In the meantime, your dentist may give you a temporary filling or crown.<\/p>\n

Severe Teeth or Gum Bleeding<\/h3>\n

Depending on the severity of the bleeding, your dentist may prescribe medication or recommend home care measures. If the bleeding is severe, you may need to be hospitalized as you may require surgery to stop the bleeding.<\/p>\n

Severe Tooth Pain<\/h3>\n

After examining the tooth, your dentist may recommend a root canal to remove the damaged tissue. If the tooth can’t be saved, you must have it extracted and replaced with an implant or bridge.<\/p>\n

Gum Abscess<\/h3>\n

Your dentist will drain the pus from the abscess and may prescribe antibiotics to help clear the infection. You may also need a root canal if the abscess is near the tooth root.<\/p>\n

Emergency Root Canal<\/h3>\n

If you have an abscessed tooth, you may need a root canal to remove the damaged tissue. This procedure involves drilling into the tooth to remove the pulp and nerves. The tooth is then sealed and covered with a crown.<\/p>\n
